Slept last night in the public park of Wood River Nebr. Hope I have better luck today. Today I am in the town of Kearney. I consider it to be the halfway point. Here’s hoping I have as good luck west as I have had coming this far. Am getting west and have been taken for a westerner by one who has been out in that country years ago.

Stayed all night of 6-15 in a hotel here in North Platte. Washed all my clothes and took a bath in the washbowl in my hotel room. Feel much better this morning. I am sorry the wash bowl was not larger or I would have washed my pants. First outcropping of limestone located 5 miles east of Sutherland Nebr of the foothills of the Rockies. A busy Sunday afternoon in Boscol. Landed here in Sidney Neb. I gave a swimming demonstration at the swimming pool. This is the first time I have been in swimming in a year. I enjoyed the swim very much. Night of the 16th gave the “Shooting of Dan McGrew” on the stage in Sidney. I made $5.00 at it. It was a midnight show. Didn’t get to sleep until 2AM.

Packed up and was carried 40 miles before breakfast. Slept out all night of 6-17. I went into town, talked to 2 farmers. I was asking for a place to sleep in the barn. Both refused. Had to sleep on the wet ground. Talk about the cold. Almost froze to death.

Made Cheyenne this morning. Sighted the first snow clad mountains, south west of Cheyenne.
W. W. Ewing 2005 Van Fennen, Cheyenne, Wyo. Mr. Ewing a bus driver picked me up outside of Cheyenne and carried me 158 miles. He certainly is a real man. Under all circumstances he must be written to. Am now in the heart of what we really think is the West. Find the people are no different than those in the East. It certainly is wide and open out here alright. Was picked up out of Douglas and landed here in Casper. It will be cold sleeping out tonight but I can stand it.

Slept in a deserted shack in Casper last night. If it hadn’t been for being inside, I think I would have frozen to death. I am now riding with a tobacco salesman from North Carolina. He thinks he knows just about everything. He is a pretty good scout though. By staying with him I will be able to cover at least 100 miles today.
Hell’s Half Acre, Powder River, Wyo. A. E. Humberson. Mr. Humberson gave me a specimen of Geyserites and Petrified wood as well as the fossils. I must get a grub stake and come back to Hell’s Half Acre to get a collection of fossils for myself.
Waltham Wyo. This town is located on the map as quite a large place – true about two miles south of the highway is a railroad watering station, but on the highway all there is only a combination store, restaurant and gasoline billing station. Absolutely nothing else. The wind - as it blows up in these altitudes is something fierce. If the brakes are not set on a standing automobile, the wind will blow it away. The wind glows constantly from some direction or the other. Mostly from the west.
A. Ashley, 2617 Evans Ave. Cheyenne Wyo. And 600 N. Excellent St Charlotte, NC. Mr. Ashley was the Raleigh Cigarette salesman who carried me from Casper to Shoshone. We had a fine time making the trip. Ashley was from North Carolina and a dammed good scout.
M.P. Kavanaugh, Box 341 Cheyenne, Wyo. The sales man who carried me from Shoshone to Thermopolis.
