James Stermer returned from his latest trip in the Fall of 1929. The prospecting he had done in Montana was a bust when he could not sell the mineral rights to the claims. He had to think of something else to do.
It was difficult to find a job as the Depression hit shortly after his return. Detroit as the rest of the nation was in financial stress. Based on his past experience of teaching he looked at the County as a source of a job. Besides the County paid its employees in script that was as good a cash. Jim, as he now decided to be called, got a job as a Juvenile Probation Officer based on his past experience as a teacher in 1924-27.
He also met Dolores, who was the court stenographer. They used to tease how them met in junevile court. They were married one year after they met.
